After that, you can extend your visa for another 5 years. Note that after the first 5 years you are able to apply for permanent&nbsp;settlement in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-can-apply-for-ancestry-visa\"><span id=\"who-can-apply-for-ancestry-visa\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_can_apply_for_ancestry_visa\"><\/span>Who can <a href=\"https:\/\/icslegal.com\/apply-for-uk-ancestry-visa\">apply for ancestry visa<\/a>?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can apply for such a visa if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You are a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/right-of-abode\/commonwealth-citizens\">Commonwealth citizen<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are applying from outside the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your grandparents were born in the UK.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are able to and plan to work when in the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other eligibility requirements include being over the age of 17. You also must prove that you are able to finance your stay in the UK without support from public funds and also sufficient funds for any dependents you may have<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-i-prove-my-ancestry\"><span id=\"how-can-i-prove-my-ancestry\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_I_prove_my_ancestry\"><\/span>How can I prove my ancestry?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can prove your ancestry by proving that your grandparent has been born in one of the following circumstances:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They were born in the UK which includes the Channel Islands and Islan of Man<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They were born before 1922 in what the Republic of Ireland is today<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If they born on ship or aircraft which is British registered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-can-you-claim-ancestry\"><span id=\"when-can-you-claim-ancestry\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_can_you_claim_ancestry\"><\/span>When can you claim ancestry?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to claim ancestry. You or your parents should be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>were adopted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>were inside or outside marriage in the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You cannot claim ancestry via stepparents<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-documents-will-i-need\"><span id=\"what-documents-will-i-need\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_documents_will_I_need\"><\/span>What documents will I need ?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A valid passport or travel identification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bank statements proving you have sufficient funds to live in the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuberculosis test results if you are from a country where it is required (Kenya, Eritrea, and Somalia)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your Birth certificate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your marriage or Civil partnership documents if your partner wants to join you in the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Birth certificate of the parent\/grandparent that you are basing your claim on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Marriage certificate of your parents and grandparents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal adoption papers if you were adopted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-can-i-nbsp-do-and-what-i-nbsp-cannot\"><span id=\"what-can-i-do-and-what-i-cannot\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Can_I_do_and_what_I_Cannot\"><\/span>What Can I&nbsp;do and what I&nbsp;Cannot?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You Can work, study and bring members of your family. You cannot \u2018switch\u2019 into this visa if you\u2019re already in the UK on another visa.
